water scarcityDear friends,
we are forced worldwide to experience an unprecedented emergency caused by a coronavirus,
invisible enemy, and we must think now, to face another crisis, the water crisis, made urgent because of no historical precedent.

Our mountain springs have suffered from climate change. We entered Spring without the real winter taking place. We know the effect of the thermal rise and the problem of scarce rainfall, which is increasingly small.

This year, the cold season that experienced a 2.5 degree rise in temperature had the sad record of being the mildest in the history of Europe.

In Russia, except for rare days, thermometers have always recorded temperatures above 0.
In Helsinki for 60 days, there was no snowfall.
In Canada, bears have been well awake for a month now, and strawberries and asparagus have dominated our markets and supermarkets since February.

From expert meteorologists, the news that our water reserves have halved and that we are concretely risking a period of drought.

In San Benedetto del Tronto, the CIIP (the company that manages the distribution of drinking water), following the activation of the "Red Code-2nd stage" alarm, due to the persistence of the state of water crisis, which affects our reserves, ordered the closing of public fountains. The fountains in via Premuda at the intersection with via Trieste and via Val di Chiana remain open, with the necessary limitations.
In these days it has returned to winter temperatures and there are snowfalls in some regions of the country.

Unfortunately agriculture will suffer from the exceptional nature of these weather phenomena, fruit trees are in fact already in bloom.
We are hopeful that these copious precipitations will enrich the arid aquifers and help to overcome at least one emergency, the water crisis.
